AI Usage Policy

Axial Escape believes it is acceptable to:

  • Use AI for coding/programming support, and keep snippets of AI generated code in the engine

  • Use AI to ideate on graphical designs and naming conventions before working with artists to produce final assets

  • Use AI to create reference images to show real artists and aid them in their workflow

  • Use AI assets as placeholders for various in-game assets before proper release

  • Be uncertain about the future of AI usage in art and media, and the evolving definition of what crosses the line in terms of AI usage

Axial Escape believes it is unacceptable to:

  • Release a game without providing sufficient and clear disclosure of how AI was used in it’s production.

  • Use AI to fully produce soundtracks, voice lines, dialogue, character art, background art, map designs, etc. and replace human workers in the process

  • Deny real artists, composers, designers, actors, writers, producers, marketers, etc the opportunity to use their talents and be fully compensated for their work

How does Born In Reverie utilize AI?

AI image generation was used for ideation on various designs. What this actually means in practice is that AI images were created and then sent to real artists to serve as reference material in their work. The final illustrations, designs, etc. in-game were created by artists.

To improve productivity, the development of Born in Reverie utilized AI tools for coding/programming support, and AI upscaling algorithms to improve or alter human-created art assets. Born in Reverie contains snippets of AI generated code in it's engine. I am not the world's best programmer and believe it is acceptable to lean on AI tools to help debug and learn more about coding. Born in Reverie DOES NOT live produce anything in-game via AI generation.

As an indie developer, I am unable to supervise the work of all the freelancers I work with and cannot guarantee their work is entirely AI free. If anyone I work with is found to produce content with significant AI usage, I will be removing their content and credits from the game and replacing their content with proper human artistry.

Born in Reverie values human artistry and seeks to create something genuine and authentic for players to experience. Real artists designed characters, maps and environments, illustrations, sprites, etc. Music was produced by composers. The narrative and dialogue was written without AI tools.
